December 13, 2022, is the ninth national memorial day for the victims of the Nanjing Massacre. To mourn the victims of the Nanjing Massacre and all the dead compatriots killed by the Japanese invaders, to remember the revolutionary martyrs and national hero who gave their lives for the Chinese people's War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression, to remember the profound disaster caused by the war of aggression to the Chinese people and even the people of the world, and to the firm position of remembering history, never forgetting the past, cherishing peace, and creating the future. The National Memorial Day for the Victims of the Nanjing Massacre is a commemorative day established by the Chinese government to commemorate more than 300000 compatriots who died in the Nanjing Massacre through national public offerings.

On February 27, 2014, the 7th meeting of the Standing Committee of the 12th National People's Congress passed a decision to establish December 13 as the National Memorial Day for the Victims of the Nanjing Massacre through legislation. The adoption of the resolution raised the commemoration of the victims of the Nanjing Massacre to the national level, and demonstrated the firm position of the Chinese people against the war of aggression, safeguarding human dignity and safeguarding world peace.

According to the approval of the State Council, starting from 2014, the flag will be lowered at half mast at the main venue of the National Memorial Ceremony for the Victims of the Nanjing Massacre on December 13th every year.

Showing the past and guarding future generations. Although the smoke of gunpowder has dissipated, the mourning for that tragedy continues unabated. Inheriting historical memories can strengthen the belief in cherishing peace over time. Only by inheriting historical memories can we move towards the future with the footsteps of seeking development and peace.
